Presentation: Building a Database Monitoring Tool using Splunk for Free
Designed around a 5S model, I’ll show you how you can build your own Database Monitoring Tool for free with some SQL scripts and shell scripts. The 5S model is one that covers monitoring SQL, Sessions, Scheduled Processes, Statistics and Space providing a comprehensive monitoring platform for any database. The examples will be based on Oracle SQL however they can easily be translated into DB2, SQL Server, MySQL or any other major database platform. Monitor sessions, disk performance, SQL performance, DB tablespace information, concurrent programs, object statistics all using one single script and free splunk.
I’ll take attendees through downloading and installing the Free version of Splunk, creating an index, and getting data into Splunk through the use of input scripts. Attendees will need the knowledge to edit and run shell scripts, SQL scripts in SQLPlus and have some minor html editing experience. Attendees should expect to leave with a solid overview on how to build their own database monitoring tool using Splunk.
